2015
This piece brings together imagery from the ice repository (where the ice cores are stored after extraction), Antarctic topography, and the ice core itself. The white background evokes the West Antarctic snow and ice-covered landscapes. The circles of silver leaf represent, both physically and metaphorically, the storage tubes that hold the precious ice samples. The central image depicts air bubbles in the ice, frozen in time, connecting us to the past. The contours reflect the topography of the ice sheet, drawing together many aspects of the WAIS Divide project.
